Tom began his career in construction working for a trim carpenter in New Jersey at sixteen. There, he developed a passion for quality craftsmanship and fell in love with the trade. After two years of college, Tom decided to return to the construction field and start his formal training by working with a company that focused on building custom homes.
In 1978, having decided on his career path, Tom got married, moved to Northern Virginia, and continued in the construction business as a project manager for Halco Engineering. Shortly thereafter, at the age of twenty-seven, he founded his own construction company – Vitale Construction Inc. (VCI) – where Tom focused on projects for companies like Boeing, Pitney Bowes, and US Airways. In 2000, he started VCI’s sister company, Oak Hill Building & Remodeling, after noticing there was a lack of qualified contractors in the DMV who specialized in remodeling and renovating houses.
Tom and his wife Susan enjoy spending time with their four children and nine grandchildren, all of who live locally. When he isn’t working, Tom enjoys following college basketball and football, and working on his vintage Morgan car.
While obtaining a bachelors degree in Business Management from George Mason University, Nick would work periodically for his father as a carpenter installing kitchens, constructing additions and renovating homes. But his apprenticeship actually began almost a decade earlier in the eighth grade when he worked summers by assisting in framing basements, constructing decks, hanging doors, and installing trim.
After graduating from college in 2009, Nick worked as a project manager for the largest commercial contractor in the DC area, HITT Contracting. However, he missed the personal elements and interactions that come with working in a smaller firm and decided to work full-time with Oak Hill Building & Remodeling. Nick is one of the company’s project managers and sales associates. His personal interests include spending time with his wife and three daughters, photography, anything automotive, and camping.
Born and raised in Fairfax, Thomas and attended Oakton High School and in 2013 graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Entrepreneurship and Insurance & Risk Management. He started working for Oak Hill Building & Remodeling in 2015, undertaking increasingly more responsibility over the years. Thomas is currently a project manager and sales consultant.
Thomas is also a licensed real estate broker, which gives him keen insight into the broad, and more importantly, local market and its emerging trends. This understanding is invaluable as he assists clients in all phases of the residential construction and home building process so they can achieve their desired vision. Thomas is also a huge Washington, DC-sports fan and in his spare time has a passion for all outdoor activities, particularly golfing, hiking, boating, and snowboarding.
Susan has been with Oak Hill Building & Remodeling from the beginning when Tom founded the company in 1978. For over 40 years, she has managed materials costs, income, billing and invoicing, payroll, insurance, taxes, and myriad other financial responsibilities. To say Susan is instrumental in maintaining day-to-day functions of the company would be a gross understatement.
Susan enjoys spending time with her four children, but most of all, loves to spoil her nine grandchildren. She also loves to travel and is a fabulous cook.
